Summary – “A magnificent tour of the UNESCO Churches of Poland”
The Tour starts off in the small town of Swidnica, there you will visit the Evangelical church of peace (Augsburg denomination), which is the largest timber framed religious building of this type in Europe. This wonderfully decorated church was erected after the Thirty-years’ battle as a manifestation of a limited religious tolerance in the Catholic Habsburg monarchy. It wasn’t until 2001, when these special churches were added to the UNESCO listing.
Following this, the tour embarks on a journey to a Basilica in Wambierzyce, which is also known as Silesian Jerusalem. This is a very special place, and when it was built it was so in the mindset that, “Everything had to look like it did in the Holy land”. So there is a hill call Sion Tobar, and a brook called Cadron. Here you will see the amazing Sanctuary of our Lady of Wambierzyce – The Queen of Families.
To end the tour stops in the quaint mediaeval town of Zabkowice Slaskie, which is the home of the most famous Polish leaning tower.
