1. Where is Krakow? Krakow is in the Southern Region of Poland, it is the second largest city and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poland. There are more historical buildings in one area than maybe any other city in the world.
2. Krakow has a population of around 750,000 people, and of that amount, a little less than 200,000 are students.
3. Did you know Poland has, throughout history, had many different capital cities, and Krakow was the capital of Poland for over 500 years from 1038 to 1596?
4. According to Polish legend, the city is protected by a mighty dragon.
5. Jagiellonian University in Krakow was founded in 1364 by Casimir II the Great, it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Nicolaus Copernicus, the Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who formulated a heliocentric model studied there.
6. The number of bars and clubs in Krakow is dense. There are people travelling from all over the world mixing with locals, who are only too happy to show off the best about their city and so the atmosphere is amazing.
7. Unlike the UK for example, Bar and pubs in Krakow don’t close and 11pm, there are just getting going around this time. As a general rule, some places will stay open until the last person leaves.
8. Many Polish Kings and Presidents have been buried in Krakow Wawel Castle.
9. Krakow’s football team Wisła Kraków are one of the most successful teams in Polish football. They have finished champions or runners up 12 times in the last 15 years.
10. In 2013 Lonely planet voted Krakow square the best market square in the world.
